Kevin Lacey, a distinguished figure in the aviation industry and beloved television personality, has passed away due to health complications. Born in 1960, Lacey’s passion for aviation ignited in 1973, leading to a prolific career that spanned over five decades.

His journey was marked by significant contributions as a pilot, mechanic, educator, and mentor, leaving an indelible mark on the aviation community. Lacey’s aviation odyssey commenced earnestly in 1974 when he earned his Private Pilot Certificate.

Demonstrating an early aptitude for the field, he undertook his first aircraft repossession in September 1975, a venture that would later define a substantial part of his career.

In 1976, he further solidified his expertise by obtaining an Airframe & Powerplant Mechanics Certificate and an Associate Degree from the Spartan School of Aeronautics.

These qualifications propelled him into roles such as Director of Maintenance for a FAR Part 141 Flight School and a reserve pilot position for a FAR Part 135 operator, where he honed his skills in aircraft maintenance and operations.

The late 1970s saw Lacey transition into the corporate aviation sector. In 1979, he assumed the role of Maintenance Crew Chief at a FAA Part 145 Certified Repair Station, focusing on the upkeep of corporate jets.

His proficiency in maintenance soon opened doors to the cockpit, where he served as a corporate pilot for various aircraft under FAR Part 91 and Part 135 operations. This period was instrumental in broadening his understanding of both the technical and operational facets of aviation.

The economic downturn of the late 1980s presented challenges to the aviation industry, notably a surge in aircraft repossessions. Recognizing the need for comprehensive support in this area, Lacey co-founded Texas Air Fleet, LLC.

The company offered a suite of services, including aircraft maintenance, storage, and re-marketing, specifically tailored to assist with repossessed aircraft.

Under his leadership, Texas Air Fleet expanded its capabilities by earning a FAR Part 145 Certified Repair Station certificate and establishing a FAR Part 135 Air Carrier Certificate for corporate jet operations.
